Our last trip to Samarkand

During Spring Break we once again hung out in Uzbeksitan. We spent one day in Samarkand. Sadly this was the last trip we were really able to take while still in Uzbekistan. We had a great day together with Liz and Iona who were in Samarkand for the first time. Once again we saw the blue mosaics and remembered the history of Uzbekistan that we enjoyed so much during our time there.

This time we went to Ulugbek's observatory which had not been able to do previously. Ulugbek was Amir Timur's grandson. He is known as the philosopher and scientist among Amir's descendants. Sadly his own son killed him to take power from him.

The telescope changed angles by moving down this track that was underground below the actual observatory.

At the Registan. A lot of these pictures were taken by the boys.

At the Shaki-Zinda Mausoleum.

Reviewing the pictures today I realize how beautiful Samarkand is, and how lucky we have been to be able to experience the beauty of the architecture.
