Earthquake

Yesterday we experienced our first earthquake in Tashkent. The quake was very short, but very sharp. The boys were in class, while I was in the computer lab. In the beginning it felt a bit like a trolleybus or tramvajs was passing by like in Latvia, but I realized it couldn't be. It was relatively short for an earthquake and we didn't have to time to get under our desks.

The school was evacuated, and we waited while the building was checked by the appointed staff. Everything was fine, and we went right back to classes. I spent the next half hour talking with the kids about earthquakes, safety processes, and generally calming them down.

We are all safe and Tashkent also seems to be fine and no worse for wear. Interesting that the quake registered at around 5.5 or 6.0 depending on the sources you read. Today I saw nothing about it on the news, but saw that a quake occurred in China again at 5.9 on the scale and there was a large amount of damage there.
