Winter Concert

Today was the Winter Concert. It was a huge affair with preparation beginning in early November to learn the songs and lines. The concert was divided into to two parts. This year we have a professional actor working with the kids from a local theatre and he is very demanding of the kids, but lots of fun too. Additionally our music teacher really works hard to excite and motivate the kids to success. The first part was the KG-2 and the second the 3-5. My class had the main parts and did all of the acting.

Of course Namejs was in the K-2 performance. He had to sing a song about Santa's list, and the Chinese new year. He also had to do a dreidl dance. The performance was nicely balanced with all of the children actively participating. I have never seen a children's performance in which all the kids were so relaxed and happy to be there. Everyone enjoyed themselves - including Namejs. My shy little boy spoke his lines bravely and loudly (!) and was smiling the whole time! He had fun. Here are some pictures of him:

Here is the Dreidl Dance - it was hard to get a good picture because of all the movement!

Didzis was in the production called Once on Housetop. The story is about a group of chimney sweeps who make a few miracles happen and help people of all different types to have a better holiday season. Didzis class sang the Ramadan song, the Russian new year song and the main song called Once on a Housetop. Once again I have to say this is the first performance about which Didzis was absolutely excited and had such fun with his classmates in preparing for and learning the songs. They all really enjoyed it. The pictures below are of Didzis singing - they are smoky, because the smoke machine brought in was used for the effect.

After all of that excitement Didzis had a playdate and Namejs and I went and did some Christmas shopping. Once we got home everyone was starving and ate. Suddenly both boys were cranky! Then the next thing I knew Namejs was begging to have his back scratched while crawling into bed, and Didzis passed out after quietly reading. All before 7:30pm. A great break for me, and I hope they will be well rested for the long weekend that starts tomorrow.

Tomorrow we will go to Chorsu bazaar to finalize Christmas shopping, and then we have tickets to see the school's matinee performance of Oliver. A few of my students are Fagin's Gang. This is one serious production and I hope that next year I might be able to convince Didzis to participate in the planned play after seeing what the whole thing is about. Then my friend Alex has a Festivus party. Saturday is the Holiday Ball! Sunday is going to be a laze about home day and a pirts - maybe someone will come over and join us too.
